featured in News & reviews Author Tracy Wise, Destination Editor Updated

La Plagne is a family-friendly resort that makes all these things as easy as possible.

Travelling anywhere with children can be challenging, and in a ski resort it can be doubly so with things like lift passes, equipment hire and ski lessons to arrange (never mind hats, gloves, snotty noses and the rest...!). Here's why we recommend La Plagne as a family destination.

Worth knowing

La Plagne’s reputation as one of the world's top family ski resorts has been many years in the making and is constantly being improved. There really is no better resort for a family ski holiday, so come visit us and see for yourselves.

Top reasons to visit La Plagne as a family

1. The ‘Famille Plus’ scheme
The resort has worked hard to become a part of this officially recognised scheme, bestowed only on those resorts and destinations that go out of their way to cater to families and children. They provide activities, services, entertainment and prices throughout resort favourable to those holidaying with kids in tow.

2. Ski area and lift passes
There are lots of beginner areas that are easily accessed, so it's easy to practice with the kids. Plus La Plagne offers favourable lift pass prices to families, making valuable savings.

3. Great ski schools
The tuition available in La Plagne is truly brilliant. You'll find ski schools offer lessons for little ones, and handily they all speak English.

4. Short transfer times
When travelling with children, short transfers to resort are a must and La Plagne has good transport links to the main airports. Chambery airport is under two hours away, while Geneva, Lyon and Grenoble Isère are all about two and a half hours away.

5. Easy to get around resort
La Plagne operates a great free bus service, that connects the villages, every day throughout the winter season. The two main routes operate from 08:30 right through until 00:50.

6. Child-friendly accommodation
The hotels and rental accommodation in La Plagne offer top quality accommodation with services for families, and are great for ski in / ski out convenience. This is ideal with kids - less lugging all their ski gear around at the start and end of the day, and perfect for access to beginner slopes.

7. Modern leisure facilities
On the days you don't want to ski, head to one of the leisure facilities - Espace Paradisio in Montchavin, Magic Pool, or the Salle Omnisports. Spend some time scaling the climbing wall, swimming in one of the pools, playing table tennis, squash, or simply relax in a jacuzzi.

8. Fun on the hill
Aside from skiing, another way to find some fun is a family sledging session, and there are dedicated sledging zones at Plagne Centre, Plagne Villages and Soleil, Montchavin, Champagny, Belle Plagne, Montalbert, Plagne Bellecote and Plagne 1800.

9. Family friendly restaurants
Most restaurants around resort are child-friendly and have a children’s menu, high chairs, and families are always made welcome.

10. Family activities
La Plagne prides itself on offering families a whole host of activities away from the slopes. Why not take the kids bowling in Belle Plagne or ice skating (again in Bellecôte). If that’s not enough, there’s winter walking trails, dog sledding, skidoo trips, or even the Olympic Bobsleigh experience. The list goes on and on.
